Colors are life and I draw them on the stretched canvas to lead everyone to question themselves in turn about life, about their life.
Goodÿ - Gilles EUGENE
Over time, colors and I have become accomplices. There is no longer any question of questioning their essence as « materials », nor as « time ». I found in these essences, multiple existences that we commonly call a work of art, a painting on canvas.
The work that is born becomes the material existence, in the human world, of our relationship filled with concessions and love.
Today, I question the colors not from the containers, but those from our common existence and which gave life to this work, this painting which is supposed to survive me.This notion should be debated again, because we often think of the things we create as our children, to whom we give life through the magic of procreation and birth...)
So I was saying that I question the colors born from our common existence.
These colors become another existence, preceded by an equally singular essence. Colors at that moment become spaces: a surface, lines, a whole contained on the plane, I still remain in my register which is painting on canvas, in my practice, these « Colors-Spaces » are therefore paintings, works. Whatever the arrangement of a pictorial work in the place, whether it is seen or not, it is what it is: a sum of colors, even unique, even reduced to its simplest expression of line on a flat support. An inert surface whose vital dynamic which projects it into the human world, its existence, depends only on the will of someone other than itself. If the work exists and lives through the gaze that we cast upon it, that is to say upon its colors in particular, it is no less true that it has an essence itself locked away from view (existence being defined here and from the beginning, by becoming, expression, nature of, and essence by that which is beyond all consideration). Even if we could debate it, I would stay within these limits to continue the debate and simplify my thoughts, I am not talking about who precedes who...
This space that is the colors and that I question in the work produced, is a fiction revealing part of my visions of the world, my analyses and my thoughts outside of my personal problems ( I almost never translate my moods, my experiences, my history, my accidents in my works, but what is written concerns me, because I am part of this world described). I question this world of which I am a part using pretexts that we call « subjects », an architecture that we call « composition ». All this is for me, only words, once again limiting the colors in schemes that reassure us.
Colors are spaces, in my opinion. These spaces are as multiple as can be both the existence of material colors and the resonance in each of those who receive their vibrations. At this moment in my practice, I draw the color : I use them directly « Colors-substances » using their times.
I undergo their existence by confronting them with dialogue, by inviting them to debate, by summoning their vibrations, their relationships.Colors draw surfaces and vice versa, delimit areas, enter into confrontation, create stories and give life to lines. These lines that we call « traces » Or « graphics » or even « lines of force », in my practice are only the existence of colors and resonance in each one who looks. I do not draw the subject to then paint it and erase the construction lines during the creation. I paint the subject in colored stages, I create by adding transparencies. The colors of each stage are useful and together build this work, these « Colors-Spaces» what are the finished works.
I impose my will on the « Colors-substances » and to the « Colors-time », by containing them in a story. To such an extent that I am forced to create several «color spaces » at the same time, in order to contain the multiple, to exhaust it, to tame it. Over time, I learned to contain the essence of our relationship in a set of « Colors-Spaces » that I call « a collection », this collection is itself multiple, since it is composed of « series », all within a relative time of 5 years. Each new project of relationship with colors, through a theme, is a constraint that I impose on myself in order to follow the guiding thread of my story, of my work plan : « A look at the evolution of the world » (hence the diaeresis on the « y» from my creator name Colors-Spaces. Besides, this whole name is dedicated to this funny, strange, difficult, restrictive, but very pleasant relationship in itself, It's Good! for me… so maybe for you too). My practice of colors is a life. More than a journey, it is a birth that is today 23 years old in its existence and 48 in its essence (my age). I would add that in my state of consciousness, this essence which is my inner relationship to colors, associated with my thoughts, is about forty years old, that is to say since the age of 6.
I'll explain this in a very brief summary here, because to understand the colors in my artistic practice, you have to know that since the age of 5–6, I have seen everything in color, words, sounds, days, etc. At a certain point, I was so sensitive to my environment, not through empathy but through sensory vibration, that it became disturbing. I hear, I see, I feel and experience almost everything in color. And the more I think about colors, the more sensitive I become to all of this. I won't go into the details of these perceptions here because this is not a debate format for that, but I will tell you that for a certain time, I cut off the transmission, turned off the light, closed the door and threw the key into a ravine called « the standard » ; become a good student, follow a school curriculum, have a job and all the corollary. But nothing stops the vibration of colors, and even less that of Colors-Spaces. Because if the colors are spaces, they are also « living space ».
These « Colors-Spaces » which are given to share, become the spaces of others for a moment, and that of another in particular when the latter keeps one or more in his direct environment. And thus, these spaces contribute to the relationship between the individual and himself in an individual or collective manner (when the works are shared in a collective space). But, in any case, the existence of the « Colors-Spaces » are personal stories that can only become collective through exchange, self-sharing, and respect for our differences, even our divergences. And it is in this collective dimension that we attempt to identify, even define, the harmony of colors.
